Just walk around the car and wobble each wheel. If there is any play in them i would get them checked out.

Doesn't sound right to me, they should last heaps longer than that. Although it does depend on a few factors;
- how many kms have you done?
- done any offroading or driving in very dirty conditions?

It's also possible they weren't installed properly. Perhaps not assembled tight enough or maybe used the wrong type of grease.

The bearings can be completely shot without the wheels wobbling....if your wheels wobble chances are you have problems much worse!

You should get years longer than that out of a set of bearings for your Impreza if you are doing normal day to day driving. As said maybe they where not installed properly or the seals have failed or the hub nut has come loose.

As far I know that Subaru bearings can last upto 400,000 kms and the rest!!!

Due 3phase electric motors that i rebuild at work (I rebuild approx 16 motors a week) and I've came across to badly installed bearings which they only lasted a week or less - depends tho, if it has been installed incorrectly or has been abused while being installed the balls inside could be out of shape causing premature wear, I've came across a couple. Best bearings I've came across is French SKF and Japanese also Swiss as well. (Top best would be swiss made or french. NTN bearings are sh*t.
Cheers
