D/R 5spd L series: Changing diff ratios

Post by adamb » Mon Mar 17, 2008 11:32 pm

hi,

Has anyone tried to change the diff ratio inside the L series Gearbox to 4.111 from a liberty box? Is it possible. I know i could just put a lib box in but i want proper 4wd and for it to be faster off the mark on the road. it may be too much effort than its worth but if its doable and easy enough ill give it a shot. I have a spare reconditioned L gearbox to go in that i can have a play with.

cheers
adam

Apparently its not doable in the L series box, but can be done on some liberty boxes...

Some one will beable to tell you exactly what's involved.

AWD pinions are different shaft wise and not interchangeable with FWD or Part time 4WD ones .

Apparently you can put some of the lib internals into the L series casing, but I have no idea if there is a combination that will work with the 4.11.

This is what I did for mine:

To do it would mean basically rebuilding the Liberty gearbox in DR EA casings .

Been done before, can't see why it can't be done again. I'm not sure about fitting the 4.11 in the EA casing though, i've heard somewhere that the crown wheel is too large for the EA casing...

But don't let that put you off having a look to see if it will fit.

Cheers
