Custom Dash

Post by Hamish71 » Fri Apr 04, 2008 12:27 pm

Anyone thought about using aftermarket ecu and dash display instead of wiring in a new dash for EJ22/EJ20/EJ25 conversion?

Im thinking that its got to be easier to just use an ECU and disply rather than trying to make the oem loom and gauges work.

For example:
motec sdl
http://www.motec.com.au/sdl.htm
aim
http://www.aimsportsystems.com.au/mxl_system.html
Can be pricey, but, I already have a "spare" ecu, so "filling in the dash" onthe brumby in a minimalist way, and using the single display is looking attractive.

There's still no need to touch the dash, it's an option but not the only one.

yeah I've seen it done on a white brumby that was sitting out the front of perfourmance motorsports in Brizzy. (the same people that worked on what looks to be the 500 hp brumby on your avatarrs. http://autospeed.com/cms/A_2970/article.html)

Dunno the car but it looked like a full doner dash from an rs. Looked sweet

It just looks like a standard brumby dash that's been covered and all the extra gauges crammed into it.
I'm in the process of trying to fit the entire dash (including A/C & heater gear) from a WRX into my brumby, but i'm finding that the dash from the WRX is much deeper the the brumby and to fit it, there will have to be some major material removal. So i've decided to keep the brumby dash and recover it, and fit all the WRX wiring, dash cluster and A/C controls into it. I'm also still going to cram the A/C, heater box, and fan fromt he WRX behind the brumby dash, this will require some firewall modifications.

Nah sorry mate the brumby in the link wasn't the one I was reffering too. The white one I was talkin about actually has a full donor dash, i think it may even be from a wrx. Not sure tho. Should ask the guys down at pms, if one of em owns it?

Looks like a 01 forester. Looks good, did you mould your own shroud or graft original one? Saves having speedo calibration troubles if its all the same ie box cluster wheels.
