Fascia Kits for stereos

Post by fitzy03 » Fri Jan 13, 2006 7:11 pm

I have a brumby and want to neatly put a stereo in the front. We have customly made a fascia kit for now but want to know if there are ones made for the car. I have searched the net and found some for a subaru "brat" but it doesn't look like it would fit. Has anyone else had this problem?

I think i know the facia kit your refering to. You may require some custom panel building to make it suit properly... an easier option may be to purchase a different MY wagon or Brumby console that it may fit better.

Are there different consoles available? If so where from?
Thank you

Have a look at your local wreckers for an 83/84 Touring wagon. These have the best console of all.

I got one of these Subaru facia kits........to suit L series and MY - I don't need the MY bits so if they are suitable you can have them.

I have the same problem I have a new CD player to go into my 89 Brumby but dont want to go cutting up the consle or any thing. Will fitting the 83/84 wagon console allow me to fit this and will the console leave room for the gear shift? I dont want to be bashing my hand on it every time I change gears.

Cheers Troy

Ah the old "only change CD in 2nd and 4th gear trick'

Heat up your gear shifter with an Oxy set and bend the basterd back a bit.
5 speed conversions and lift kits seem to make the shifter sit forward.

Cut'nshut it or bend it.

Are they the ones with an ash tray and the slot on about a 45degree angle Tim?

Nope, thats the DL ones.

These tourer ones sit everything pretty much dead flat.

The problem with my stereo surround is that my stereo won't slide back far enough. It hits the heater box I believe. The only way I see of overcoming that is via a spacer at the front, or the 45degree DL facia.

Very few CD players will like being at the 45 degree angle. And the DL facia doesn't really have more room than the GL as it sits closer to the heater box.

You will need a spacer to fit a standard sized stereo.

For the benefit of those who don't have a tourer in the garage:

And as far as the 45 degree angle, I'm sure you've played around with a spinning bicycle wheel tilting it and so forth, anything that spins suffers this gyroscopic force, including...you guessed it, cd's.

If you did mount it like this it wouldn't be long before either a cd or the head unit itself exploded.

No worries Tim, I haven't decided exactly what I want to do with it yet but my plans so far involve a touch screen, probably a laptop or slot load dvdrom and something similar to vincentvega's setup.

I'd use an XBOX, seeing as without the case they don't fill a rather large volume, and with their cheap availability and low price they are quite a desirable platform. Plus with a simple mod they run Linux.

Thats a very valid point, I've looked at using XBox's for other things but completely overlooked them for this, thanks Tim I'll look into it.

I just encounted the very same problem, will modify a new blank facia to compensate for the angle by adding corner pieces between.
CD/Tuner unit length with heatsink on back makes a tight fit. I have that consul too, but will lose the ashtray etc to suit. The CB was in there before too, but will have to go elsewhere for now, unless I can get a slim unit.
