Sorry about the delay in posting this its been a huge week
There was a short delay on Saturday morning as someone had blown a turbo hose 8O
About a half an hour later then expected Subgiraffe and I were on the road heading towards Seabird (as we decided to explore this area first given we have both done this trip before). Given Subgiraffe thought that we were not going he had not charged his hand held thus making communication somewhat limited :P
Anyway after a very quick stop at the servo in Guilderton we decided that this would also be an ideal time to deflate tyres as this track was usually a little soft (in our experience).
We were only a few kilometres into the trip when 1 of us had overheating issues – one of us had forgotten to turn the secondary thurmo fan on… Oh and no it was not us :P At this point we found a nice 90 degree left hander to head up, it was not on the trip notes we just decided that it might be good to go and have an explore. This was short lived as only 1 of us could get up this dune. As it turned out it would seem that this overheating issue would persist throughout the entire morning as Subgiraffe consumed 3 litres of water before lunch (in the radiator) and it was reaching a point that if it continues then we would be resorting to other measures as a means of getting liquid
We found a shady place to have lunch and let Subgiraffe cool off. There was a little reluctance to get out of the cars as up until this point I had already had to remove 3 rather large engorged ticks from my legs… actually there was SO many ticks that if you looked hard enough you could just see them running around on the ground. Another 2 large one appeared on Becky’s leg over lunch (not attached, unlike mine) and it was decided that maybe we were better off in the heat of our Subaru’s as I removed another 2 ticks.
Once we reached Seabird we had a minor explore before deciding that we would drive the Guilderton component of the trip in reverse… well kinda, we just drove South through the dunes finding a few nice larger one’s to tackle… nothing to extreme as we were not out to destroy thing now… mind you it did not stop Subgiraffe from getting the left front in the air and very very vertical at one point on a vertical dune, coined 100 dollar hill – this is because on our last trip when we found this dune, the thing was so steep for me to walk I stated on the handheld cb that anyone that could pass the point where I was standing I would give em $100 Diane then proceeded blow pass this point in our car on the first pass
ops.
From here it was basically off home. There was no swimming, despite us all having our gear, as it the doctor had been blowing hard all day and the sand was really stinging and the water was extremely rough – my guess is that this was a result of the dispersing cyclone travelling down the coast – bit a bummer really. In the end there was no swimming, no damage and no water in Subgiraffe’s radiator :P not true it actually ran fine after lunch. All-in-all it was a good day out with some light 4WDing and a good initial work out for the new donk.
