Woooo hoooo my custom CV shafts showed up 2day...

4x4 MY coupe project well under way... all standards fitted (4sp dual range box, 4wd rear, air adjust rear shocks, 2" lift etc.)

fitted L series control arms with modded MY radius rods (16mm thread bar + 50mm long coupling nut... cut end off original rod, machine, tap/thread, fit coupling nut, insert thread bar, cut to length, use 4 nuts + big washers + sml piece of pipe to protect rubber bushes from rubbing on tread bar and to stop "overtightening" on bushes) quick adjustment and done...

now for the longer lighter CV shafts... reco'd MY outers, New L series inners and shafts (shafts picked buy driveshaft specialist, pretty sure they are L ones)... big length difference...(pic of both at compressed length)

then compare MY originals sitting at centre to Custom ones at compressed and then full length..

I shall install them tomorrow and post more piccies...

and i have been told by an engineer that radius rods should hold up unless i take on roadside gutters at speeds lol...

Your call but I hope the sections of "threaded steel rod" are made of a suitable grade steel .
It is always better to have adjustable caster / radius rods made from one piece of steel because you don't want them to have any "give" between their mounting points .
If either the threaded rod section or the "extended nut's" fail the wheel will go squif , lock up and your out of control .

A long one piece one with the thread machined (preferably rolled) into the rear end and a couple of sets of nuts/washers/tubular bushes would work well and be less likely to fail .

yes well there will be loads of light duty test runs in "controlled" conditions where i can easily get towed home easily b4 anything too serious.. the next step would be something from a "drift" car made from stronger alloys n stuff like this

but lookin at over $200 and the guy who sells them cant tell me who long they are so i dont even know if they wold fit... or get some machined to my spec but that'd be $200+ each...

2x 40mm coupling nuts and 2x 60mm thread...

thread is semi high-tensile and nuts are stainless (only hexbar i could get for cheap)...
then measure 20mm from start of steering rod and cut... then couling nut goes on nice n tight, and thread rod into that (also tight)...

those Lseries arms sure seem to move the wheel forward a crapload, but is something i am planning on doing soon as the Pos Camber and sh*te castor need fixing.

yeh alot to do but seems worth it from what i have heard... having problems with brake line holders hitting CV's but i dont have power steering so steering rods are probly shorter than P/S ones...
guards will be fun 2 cut i reckon lol...

got "some" work done on "one" guard lol...
first i marked out a nice curve, the cut (with TIN SNIPS cause my lil bro lent my grinder to his mate) about 20mm inside the line to allow for later folding and trimming... and flattend out the original fold and made several cuts to make bending easier

and folded as i went...

afder folding...

then welded up the slits in the fold...
