Fuel Line problem? Help, I don't know, it just keeps choking!

Post by nessbess100 » Wed Jun 25, 2008 7:13 pm

Hey, in case you didn't realise, I'm a girl and I don't know much about cars, but I really am keen to learn. I have a 96 liberty wagon and lately very occassionally and mainly just on hills, it's been losing revs when I change from 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th, sometimes I have to change all the way down to 1st just to get to the top of the hill and then sometimes when I get there it just dies and then I can restart it a minute later. Is this a fuel problem? or an engine problem that's going to cost me millions of dollars?
If anyone has any ideas on how to fix it or even just what the problem is, I'd love to know :) Thanks

Vanessa:confused:

First things I would check are fuel and air filters and spark plugs and check the ECU for error codes, then work from there.

Drop into your local mechanics and ask if they can check the error codes. If they can pick anything up or not, that should be free to do. And yea, as Mr chicken pants said, check the filters etc. (easy to do yourself stuff... :))

Only on hills under load will be fuel flow issue, change fuel filter first, check air filter while your there.
I'd do a fuel flow test before changing the fuel filter. ;)

actually, looking at the flow of fuel can be deceptive, it can still flow and look to have pressure but still not deliver pressure under load conditions.

Forget hills for a moment, how does it go if you attempt a 0-100 kph best time in safe road conditions?

Check for water in the fuel also.
