Idle/electrical??

G'day all,

I'm new here and new to Subaru's.

Just bought a 91 model GX Wagon and it has a wierd idle.

While sitting at the lights ect idling the idle will go up and down from about 1500 revs back to normal idle speed.

Anyone have any idea on what it could be?? Common problem?? Electrical or not??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks mate.

But not sure if that is the problem as it happens when idling and the idle speed fluctuates

Seems to do it more in park or neutral.

Revs just go up and down constantly...

Any ideas??

sounds like you should run some SUEC (Subaru Upper Engine Cleaner) through it after cleaning out the IACV (Idle Air Control Valve).

prolly the best thing i know of.

if you know what your doing under a bonnet itll be easy but take a little time on the EJ22's

Thanks mate. I will give it a go.

Very weird idle though, considering it fluctuates like someone is slowly reving the car up to about 1500 revs then backs off again.
