oh no

Post by carlie400 » Fri Aug 08, 2008 2:11 pm

Hey Guys..
About the 4wd day.. I can't make it.. so sorry.. going to watch the footy :) But will for sure attend another one at another time.. Im quite excited about it !
I will keep an eye out on the other pages for notice when theres a drive coming up.. If I can find them.. Perhaps one of you would be kind enough to pm me when theres a day on.. :)
I thought of a suggestion too.. How bout a drive up my way ?? We have some of the best tracks.. Up my way would be the yarra valley by the way.. We could do lunch at the tool shed and 4wd the mountain.. Just an idea.

A quick update on my latest suby incident.....
Me just driving happily.. late for an appt when all of a sudden suby sounds like a tractor... A LOUD TRACTOR.... I kinda though it sounded a bit like when I did my head which I wasnt too pleased about, but thought maybe just maybe my oil light isnt working, and I havnt checked my oil in a couple days.. Ill pull over and pay 15 bucks more than I should for oil from a servo and try and see if that fixes the noise... So I did that.. still noise...
I was quite desperate to get to where I was going so continued.. Very embarassing when your 4cyl is 5 times as loud as a v8 but no where near as cool sounding... ANYWAY.. It got the better of me and we (me and suby) pulled in at pedders suspension (only place I could find) I battered my eyelids as best I could and asked the nice man if he could tell me what was making the noise, and if driving him like that was causing any damage....
Well !!!.. A quick look and he pulled out some bolt with oil on the end of it that had come out of a hole in my block ! A HOLE... Whats that doing there I asked... Its plugging a HOLE he said !!! Neither of us knew what the hole was actually meant to have in it but a bit of lock tight on the bolt and back in it went and no more noise.. I have turned a blind eye and washed my hands of it.. Me and suby are not speaking at the moment.

Hope you guys have a wonderful day on your trip.. Im sure it will be fantastic.. Take some photos !!!

Cheers,

~Carlie

No worries Carlie.

Is saturday the 16th good for everyone?!

Pics and Video's will be on hand of the Cobaw 4wding (its just started to spit/rain), just gotta get some time on the uni mac's to make the video - should be interesting since I start teaching rounds next thursday...

That plug you've put in has a hex key in it yeah? If so there will be one on each side, front and back of the block - these are the access holes for the guegon pin that holds the piston onto the connector rod inside your engine. Check the tension on all of these next time you have the opportunity to.

Cheers

So Carlie, after the Cobaw 4wd day, some of us have made an "executive decision" to roll up to your joint in/near Noojee for some 4wding and ute tinkering...

Heath, you can supply the EJ

Just need to sort a date... Second week of the school holidays are good for me ;)

Cheers

Return of the suby dramas. part: infitity

Post by carlie400 » Fri Aug 15, 2008 2:46 pm

Hey Guys !
I'm not sure if anyone comes back here anymore but I'll check in anyway :)
My suby went to the drs again yesterday... for a few repairs..
The oil leak I have from the motor I only recently had put in after doing a head gasket on the orig one.. turns out its a majour one from the block where it joins together.. so, as you all already know Im sure the only way to fix it is to pull it all apart.. gets me thinkin I should have put the orig one in for a reco earlier..
So Im just going to cope with that for now..
I flushed my heater on wednesday at home and after a lot of stuffing around I finally figured out how to get the water hose to stay one the car water hose, turned it on and heard a big pop and flushed it through....
Silly me thought I might actually have a heater after that, but it wasnt to be... So the mech had a look at that too and turns out all the components under my dash are full of corosion and shit and dont really work..
So Im in the market for a new dash and instruments if anyone knows of any..
So anyway i have some heat now.. he adjusted it manually so I have heat on my windscreen and heat on my feet.. better than nothing ! Just cant turn it off :)
Apart from that.. I dont think anything else majour is happening with him at the moment.. today.. *fingers crossed*
When's that not fugly day again ? ;)
I better get back to work.. I did have a few questions for you guys but it isn't coming to me just yet.. I'll get back to you !

Patience is needed here. Once you've got him the way you want him its just a case of maintaining the classic subi to keep it in good order.

There hasn't been a date set for the day or two working on your subi, I'd have to check my diary to tell you dates I'm potentially available...

I'll do some digging for parts, no promises though.

Cheers

Hey Carlie,

Sorry, I won't have time for the "fix the non-fugly" day that we havn't organised yet... I'm flat out with uni for the next few weeks and will be squeezing in some 4wdin in there as well.

The news I bring is that apparently there is a EA71 stationwagon at one of the pick a parts as listed in the thread "wreckers - what's there?" hidden in the Vic's section.

Hope that helps you out. Not having a big head when I say this but no thanks required to me - we all look out for eachother on the forum unless you've got dibs on that part yourself...

Good luck with the parts hunting ;)

EJ conversion on l88 is not that simple- they are not as wide as later utes.

If you use a liberty 2.2 single overhead cam motor you will have to modify the rails to fit the motor between, but if you chose a ej20t (or other double overhead cam) the modifications to fit between the chassis rails is extensive (the entire rails have to be widened, radiator crossmsmbers lengthened) This is a big job requires many hours with mig welder and grinder.

other modifications required

- steering pinion for any 5 speed gearbox
- tunnel not big enough for late gearbox (unless you have a lift kit)
- brake master needs to be moved for turbo conversions
- engine cross member requires a LOT of mods for ej20t

In saying that, I love the old utes and I think that it was all worth while. I will post photos of myne when I can find.

Troy, What do you mean by steering pinion for any 5 speed gearbox? Does the steering column have to be moved to fit the 5 speed?!

Carlie, I guess for the 5 speed its a lift job then ;)

What is the latest anyway?

The problem is the steering flex disc, you need a smaller flex disc or remove the flex disc all together and weld the shafts directly together

Makes sense. How did you do yours? Maybe you should start a thread about your setup...
