l-series rear wheel bearing replacement

hey all,

i had a pretty indepth search, but couldnt find what i was looking for.

Ive had afew varying opinions on how easy it is to remove/change a l-series rear wheel bearing. Some have said i'll need a press, some have said i can hammer them out, and some have said they just slide out.

Someone tell me what the actual deal is!!?? please. Just wondering whether i will need to source a press or not, dont wanna pull the car to bits and then find out i need a press to do it.

the rear wheel bearings are about the only part of my wagon that have actually done the full 390,000km and theyve recently become very very noisy.

pretty sure we wont need a press but if we do i can fix that

try and bust em out on sat matto...getting new tie rod ends and front bearings too

i remember now.. when we did mine matty we tried using the press to get em out but was a bit awkward.2 simultanoues hammers and a vice ended up helping us more.

You won't need a press. Leave the hub on the car and punch the bearings out using a soft face hammer on the stub axle. They are so easy to change you'll wonder why other manufacturers don't do the same.

Its the race on the rear that can be a pain.As said Brumbyrunner is the way without a press.Boxer services also suggest that way for the home mechanic.

hmmm ok.

ive gotta find the corre bearings first! im getting stuffed around by the retailers abit..

on that note, has anyone got a pic of a rear wheel bearing so i know exactly what to get?
