Springs!
Springs!
Hey guys, I've got an bug eye impreza with a 1 inch strut top lift kit and was wondering if I put king srping raising springs will that screw me geometry and subsequently my cv joints?
Is there any other springs I can put in it for a lift? such as forester springs?
Cheers fellas

Hey,
I believe that a strut top lift is the same as raised springs.
Your altering the wheel end of the CV's and not the engine end.
So you have already screwed up your geometry.
I believe that you can get away with 2-3" before you have to really worry.
( others will confirm).
All this means is that you have to check your boots more often and they will have a shorter life.
If you want a lift that doesn't alter CV angles then a full body lift is required.
This lifts the body and the chassis off the running gear.
It involes strut top spacers AND other blocks between the engine, gearbox, etc.
Or bigger tyres.

When life gives you a corner, drop a gear, pitch, and stomp the loud pedal

The Impreza has the same suspension as the SF Forester (bug eye gen impreza). Yes could could put raised springs in but you could also just put Forester strut with standard hright springs in to raise it up. This would not hurt CV's as it would make it the same height as a stock Forester. You could then add springs springs or lift blocks ontop if you wanted, but with just the struts it would raise it up 50mm.

Not quite, the forester and Outback have lift blocks F&R between the X member and the sub frame which lowers the suspension and engine helping the CV's.
I can confirm the Bug and SF have the same springs so the Foz struts with some HD springs would be your best bet, extra camber bolts will be needed too.

I already forked out 300 for the strut top. So I'm not to keen on swapping struts because they won't transfer. Im reallly just looking for a bit more ground clearance.
And where I take it off road I tend to bash the struts a bit so having a higher spring rate would be handy. Like ilk hit bumps and the spring fully compresses and I feel like the strut is going to smash through the bonnet.

the only way to get longer travel out of the struts is to use forester struts, otherwise you can use king springs and get them standard height. this will a firmer rate so it doesn't compress as easy. and if the struts are compressing that quickly i suggest slow down, wont be long to you have to replace a bent strut, i would know all ready been there
