need advice, ej22
hi all,
as afew of you are aware, im at the start of the ej road...
i have found a reasonable 1991 ej22, with 250,000km...i have offered the dude $500 for it, and the loom, ecu, etc. What should i look for? any common probs etc.
the car runs, and it idles very nicely. The only problem is the harmonic stabaliser or whatever(pulley) is wobbling quite eratically, i realise it could just need to be tightened, but could there be a deeper problem with this?
cheers
alex

cuz we are da bestest, or somefink.
Yeah I'd take the pulley off and closely inspect the keyway, its a reasonable common problem. Aspro fixed his fairly solidly with some metal putty stuff I think but that still isn't a 100% fix. Not sure how long it would have lasted, he swapped motors only a few months afterwards due to blown head gasket I beleive.
Could definitely be as simple as a loose bolt but it raises the question why the dude doesn't just tighten it especially with people comming over to see it running.

I dont know whats available on the west coast, but on the east you should be able to find a much lower km motor for that sort of money.
a well looked aft4er engine will still be strong at 250,000, but i reckon you should shoot for something with lower kms

what do you reckon of a 1997 ej22? any faults with these motors and what are the main visible things i can check for when checking out the motor?

That motor has done too many kms and too pricey for a motor you can't hear and see running.
I would expect them sorta dollars for a motor u can test run.. maybe even drive... to take someones word for it that u don't know i would not pay more than $450.
In saying that... most people i know of that have bought an un-tested motor have regreted it... find something u can test start... u will thank me for it later.

Ok Dave
Alex , I got there just be for the motor was pulled from the car .I would ask for a compression test & be there when its done gear box was attached
* if its not I have a bell housing that can be used * & your welcome to use it for the test .
I would like to state I dont own the motor but I do know the guy very well & he is 100% true to his word .I would state on the start of the deal should there be any problems on start up you would like a full refund , he would have no problems to that .
These are good people , some thing hard to find these days in this industry
