My Soobie

Post by sully87 » Sun May 20, 2007 2:31 pm

Hey all. Just stumbled upon this forum and decided to join up.

Recently scored an 82 Wagon off a mate for nothing. It's been sitting in his backyard for 4 yrs. I got a new battery and pumped up the tyres and it started first go. Got it roadworthied, registered, serivced it and took it to Stradbroke Island over Easter weekend.

- Its been fully respayed in orginal blue colour, with glitter flakes in the clear coat.
- Motor and g/box are from an 89 brumby and had cv's replaced.
- Its got 14' sunnies with 215/85 tyres
- Just got it lifted approx 2 inches on friday.

Hope you like it...

Cheers for the warm welcome guys. I wish i found this forum when i had my first soobie, i would of considered doin the ej22 conv as i seized the motor and sold it for $500. Pic is attached.

Have any of you changed the std steering wheel? I've asked around and noone can get a boss kit.

Also my bullbar is bent towards the ground (not in pics). Any tips on how to fix it? Was thinking about getting a forklift from work and gently lifting the bullbar up.

Cheers, matt.

Find the mounting bolts in the chassis rail (somewhere on either side of the radiator, perpendicular (right angles) to the rad), loosen them off, re-adjust the bullbar to where you want it and tighten the bolts up.

I imagine if you use the forklift your only going to encounter the same problem later and you could possibly bend somethine else...

Bit of an update. After a bit of hard driving a few weeks back the beast started playing up. Sounded like it was missing a cylinder and had no power. I checked all ignition parts and all was good, but that didnt solve my problem. My mechanic pulled the head of to find i'd taken a chip out of the exhaust valve! Head got taken down to a head rebuilding place only to find out it's got a crack in-between the two valves. Yet to be pressure tested but i guess i'll start looking for a new head.

Welcome to the AuSubaru Message board

Sounds like you got a bargain there, real unusual to do head damage on an EA81 but you wont have to fork out much for a head as most will sell the head with the complete motor for minimal cost.

As for the steering wheel boss there was someone here who had recently got one in i thought but if all else fails there are other solutions.

Its all good now. Some engine place quoted me over a grand just to rebuild the head! I laughed in his face and told him where to go. Got a reco'd head from the wreakers for $200, put new gaskets on both heads and she's up and running again.

Also got number plates for it - SUL13.

Looking at getting a zorst made up for it.What do you guys reckon? NO CANNON!
