Pix Of A Vlsd And Plated Lsd
Hi all
Has anyone got pix of the above rear diffs?
I bought a rear diff that's supposed to be a plated diff, but i am not sure what i should be looking for in there.
I've removed the rear plate .
Also what does a vlsd look like with rear cover removed?
Thanx
Chris

a plated clutch has a very distinctive 2 plates inbetween them..unlike the vlsd where it looks enclosed (as it is for the oil) the plate lsd has very visible clutch plates in it that sit in the middle

that looks like a clutch pack to me but i cant see inside
vhte viscuc LSD tend to have a completely sealed section inside the housing..this is where the high viscosity oil is housed between the plates

That looks just like the insides of my one (clutch pack from an RX turbo Leone).
I havn't seen the inside of a VLSD one before.

It looks like VLSD, but could be clutch pack LSD as I havent seen/opened up CLSD.
Another thing to ask - pull out the RHS drive shaft, it will be hard but will pop out, what does the end look like?
Do you know any history of it ie. where and which car is it off from?
Cheers

Oh another thing - I'm against to open the LSD centre up because once you do it wont be the same again. Get the pros do it.

a viscus LSD has no visible spider gears
the viscus coupling is several plates inside a sealed area that has a very high viscosity oil. hence the nam VLSD
a clutch pack still has a couple of gears visible in the centre but has different forms and different ways in which the clutch plates work..come hav eplain simple clutch plates in place of the spider gears, but most have several gears there which are joined by a clutch system to even out the load and provede the limited effect....ill try find the photos of mine somewhere caus i have had both viscus and clutch pack...IE: my current wrx diff is a clutch pack that i have had repacked and its highly visible clutch packs in there as well as gears(sspider gears) in the centre...and my liberty had a VLSD...which had a closed of secion for the oil and plates
