Sounds like you have unplugged the AFM (air flow meter)

Put your standard air filter back on, and remove the resonators that are up in the left hand guard. This will give you the same performance, if not more than a pod filter. Cost is zero
Current rides: 2016 Mitsubishi Triton GLS & 2004 Forester X
Ongoing Project/Toy: 1987 RX Turbo EA82T, Speeduino ECU, Coil-pack ignition, 440cc Injectors, KONI adjustale front struts, Hybrid L Series/ Liberty AWD 5sp

Take off your front right wheel, then take off the inner plastic guard and this is where you will find the resonator thing, not sure on what to do for removing it, haven't gotten this far myself ;)

if you disconnected AFM - the engine will not start at all.
Make sure these hoses are connected under the tubing that goes behind the inlet manifold.

Yeah it will, if the plug is disconnected, the ecu will go into limp mode and calculate fuel input from throttle position.

Not true, you only need a little bit of oil, say from an oiled filter, to stop the AFM from worlking the way it should.

To clean your AFM use some carbie cleaner followed by some compressed air - try not to give it the full blast, go gentle.
