Well really hope you can check out those other things but I'd start looking at fuel. Let me know how it goes.

Ok so it is never the wrong season for a revolving tropical storm and yes there was a comedy clip (I can't find it) about start you bastard.

you all ready to hear my weekend of fun (hope you have a cut lunch)

what a weekend I discovered that my computer no longer let me run spybot search and destroy and a few other little programs to do with malware and antivirus software as well when I tried to search for a cure I kept getting directed to a known malware program masquerading as a anti spyware program, so safe mode was employed and I deleted everything in the caches temp folders and the hidden temp files deep inside the vault (widows operating system) eventually i rebooted only to have

Perflib_Perfdata_2c0.dat and Perflib_Perfdata_660.dat left behind safe mode again and delete same story when windows was rebooted and spybot still not working

another search lead me to a program called combofix and with nothing to lose I ran it 10 minutes later I had my system back

3 files buried in the registry and 2 more in programs that had been hijacked

so today I decided to have one more crack at PJ in between rain showers and howling wind I checked and cleaned the distributor again

and then moved onto the timing belt

left side

Image

right side look carefully now
Image

and timing at TDC or so I thought

Image

I put everything back together and shone a torch down the neck of the carby it really was a WTF moment as I had checked this the other day when PJ didn't start and there was nothing I pulled the carby off to clean this up

Image

and pulled the plugs and what I thought was carbon turned out to be like a layer of red (nearly black) plastic on the surface I had a motor drowned in petrol I cleaned the excess petrol out with rags and while it rained again took time to brass brush the plugs clean and check the gaps were at 1.1mm

when the rain stopped I turned over the engine with no carby or plugs to clear anything left in Frank, then put everything back together and started PJ. she ran after a few seconds then stalled I nearly had a fit as I had left the accelerator cable off.

so I put the cable back in place and tried again just as the heavens opened up again (this time with a vengeance) PJ spluttered and coughed then ran and I made sure I held the throttle at about half until the big cloud of black steam disappeared then let PJ idle, then did and set the timing to 11 degrees +or - 2

so in the end it was fuel,(but nothing like I thought) distributor dirt (and timing) and fouled plugs (and not the timing belt:rolleyes: thankfully)

Im happy PH is happy my computer is happy now if i could just stop the kids from fighting over everything in the house

tired

Glad to hear it was something simple but it does begger to ask, why and how did so much fuel get down there??? I'd make sure the electric fuel pump is not pushing too much pressure on the needle and seat. Also check that there is a negative pressure (vacuum) in the fuel tank.. you may need to make sure the vacuum lines to the carbon cannister and fuel tank are correct. As any pressure in the tank will cause petrol to flow even when the fuel pump is off.

Timing Belt is aligned corrected and you are definately on TDC firing stroke when the arrows are pointing up. (note for those putting on there own timing belts that these marks are not for Timing Belt fitment) so this is the perfect spot to check the dizzy is in the correct spot for firing on #1.

And as for computers.. STOP DOWNLOADING PORN !! :D:D:D

well I took PJ for a nice drive into town today and she is running really well again. seems I really annoyed a Canyonaro driver by getting him at a set of lights with out even trying.

Im sure I need to re-jet the carby (looking into prices on ebay)as it has a steady stream of carbon at Idle but for now Im just happy she is running well again

hopefully someone will be back from Exmouth this weekend so we can attack and finish an exhaust thats not part Ej18 and brumby mixed with Ej20 headers

cheesecake is cooked and ready to transport :)

the holley is staying home I got the parts from the US and played around with the it for about and hour, replaced an accelerator cam with a gentler one and put a plug in where the power valve should be. I put it on PJ and she revved like a demon but as soon as I tried to put load on the clutch PJ stalled. so I tried again and got out of the driveway and about 10 feet down the road when there was a nice size backfire and a bit of power then flooding on a massive scale.

I parked up and pulled the holley of to find about 5mm of fuel in the plenum so if anyone needs a freshly rebuilt 350 holley (aka model #2300 made 1971) with newly bushed butterflys I have one Im prepared to sell for what it owes me which is 160 dollars, otherwise Im going to wrap it up in plastic and wait until I have a project it will work on.

and it seems Im now coming up on Saturday morning or wait am I allowed to go on Friday night...... nooooooo!!!!!! don't hit me I will be good

ZOMFG WTF FML

words can't really explain a simple start to a very long weekend last Thursday evening I was driving around looking at blocks of land with my son when my thermostat failed not a problem I thought as the temp rose up but the became respectable again

Friday afternoon I turned the thermo into a restricter Saturday morning I drove to RSR preformance to do the exhaust (a simple 2-3 hours of cutting and welding) a valve regrind kit later the engine had headgaskets again and was back in the car

Sunday morning I drove from Trigg to the workshop and decided that I was imperative that the rear diff be replaced as it was toasted (I knew this but was putting it off until the exhaust had been done) ZOMFG did the last owner weld the inner rear CVs to the diff and why doesn't that moustache bar fit... and are those... shafts longer... oops perhaps thats not an MY rear end..... ummm Paul do you have any MY rear shafts?

eventually with the diff dramas out of the way and the engine sorted out we got a spanking exhaust set up on PJ nice and quiet but very free flowing and responsive too boot

A big thanks to Paul again and to Tristian as well for making light of a bad situation (and helping as well)

no pictures this time sorry as it was work work ( bang my head on a rear Disc brake scream swear bleed) work and get things sorted

and thanks Jack for the roo bar it may go on or the steel bohemeth I have taking up space in the workshop may go on

So, good to see another Brumby sorted again. Sometimes think if not for being Brumbys they may get put off the road and crushed.

Was there an L Series rear moustache bar or something else non MY?

yes .... yes it was an L series moustache bar which is 4-5 cm wider than the brumby bar

which explained why it didn't fit

and I forgot to thank Laurence for driving me around to get parts while Frank was being beheaded (a big thanks)

it would probably have the same amount of clearance using an escort dizzy but if you use a fiori dizzy you would have way more clearance you would just need to make or source an adaptor

Curious as to how the dizzy escort MKIII hooks up. Is it in detail in this massive colection of pages? The idea is um EJ22 has cam with drive at one end on RHS head? Is a hole machined into back of head or is there a plug that is easy removed? Then how does this escort dizzy then mesh up?

Psst, don't tell anyone I am asking I have no plans to go EJ - sounds too, nah I am committed to EA82T until I run low on parts or funds
